The tax base in Midwestern states (and even in the SE to a far lesser extent) is collapsing. Entire towns and cities are being abandoned, farms are failing and the local gov'ts that haven't fallen apart yet are giving away land for cheep and even free to entice people to move back. It's not something in the news because this is happening to low-population, electorally irrelevant places but it's a serious issue if you care about the Midwest and reasonable food prices (the factory farms filling up the void grow cash crops, not foodstuffs). So no, 'I'm not making stuff up', I'm just aware of situations and issues Fox, MSN and CNN tend to ignore due to low ratings (at least CNN covers the slavery issue but even that is something you have to hunt for on their website).

That says nothing about farms. It is also not a problem. The LOCAL tax base is shrinking because people are moving away- most likely to other places in the US. Not really a major problem except for those who might have over-projected taxes and over-spent as a result. That was just bad financial forecasting- happens all the time. Should people not be able to move freely as they choose? Should we have stopped Americans from moving to the west in 1849?

Do you have a source for that? Either way, if food production isn't impacted, it might not be a bad thing.
If they overspent, then yes. That is how our financial system works and bankruptcy is a clearing mechanism that allows governments and markets to rebound. Using it should not be feared. Also, remember that most of those people are just moving elsewhere in the US where you will in turn have increased tax bases in those other areas.
I am not sure how you are tying that into this. Do you really think food prices are going up because of this midwest "problem"? It might have some impact on it sure, but again do you have numbers?
As for wages going down and food prices up, there are many more things at play there then just this. Remember that wages tend to be sticky downwards also, so drops in average wages are probably significantly due to new jobs and with the surplus of workers, it isn't surprising. Of course you also have the monetary impact there as well.
