My husband had suffered from cancer of the esophagus since June 2003. He underwent surgery and chemotherapy. The fifth time he underwent chemotherapy, his throat really bothered him. The doctor prescribed only an anesthetic syrup. Because we couldn't afford the hospital bill, after the seventh round of chemotherapy, we left the hospital on December 26. The night before the Chinese New Year, my husband's condition had deteriorated so much that he could barely talk. During the holiday our friends and relatives saw the condition he was in. They all tried to persuade him to practice Falun Gong.
On the fourth day of the 2003 Chinese New Year, I borrowed precious Falun Gong books and tapes. My husband and I both started practicing, and a miracle happened! Only two weeks after we started studying the Fa and practicing the exercises, my husband's voice returned to normal. During his physical checkup, everything was normal. Even the doctors could not believe what they were seeing. We all knew it was Master and Dafa that saved my husband's life and saved our family!

I'm not a religious person nor do I commit myself to a religion. I base my thoughts and opinions more on facts than beliefs. Having said that, I have not ruled out that there is some sort of higher power.

At this point in time, I do not believe that religion can save lives in a physical sense but it is quite possible.

I am happy that your husband returned to normal though, whether it is religion or just coincidence :)

Mind over matter is a powerful think. You can will yourself to death or health. You can smash thru brick walls unharmed or come to a deeper understanding of the universe. In this case your husband willed away his cancer.

I agree with David one-hundred percent. I have a strong belief that our mind is extremely powerful and when we make ourselves believe that we can pull through something that we will. The human body is a phenomenon we are still exploring and will be exploring for many years to come. If you will yourself to live and keep using your strength to fight whatever is wrong with you than you can pull through it. Sometimes people just give up hope and succumb, which is by no means a bad thing depending on the person.

I think David is right. I've heard people from all religions talk about how they had a feeling or premonition or SOMETHING that saved their life, whether it be almost getting hit by a car or a plane crashing. I have some close friends who are mormon and they were at a red light and when it turned green, the dad said he had a feeling he shouldn't go, and at that moment, a man ran a red light and they would have been hit. Religion or luck? Who knows?

Or peripheral vision? Pretty sure one of the first things we learned in Drivers Ed was to look both ways before going through a light, even if it goes from red to green or is green to begin with.

God works in mysterious ways and I cannot say whether or not being religious can save a person's life. What I can say with conviction is that being religious can help a person better deal with life's adversities.

I suppose the question starts with whether or not one believes in God (not that he cannot save the lives of atheists but your question seemed to be more... can religious faith provide the stregth to survive severe adversity)
