Conservatives, how do you know Obama believes in everything the Reverend Wright said?

Everything us a big word. Obama said Rev Wright was sometimes over the top. However, Obama stayed with the church that even became too much for Oprah. He must have liked some of what he heard.

Another possibility is that his family attended that church because it looked good and helped Obama gain standing in the community.

I don't think anyone thinks that Obama believes everything he said. The issue was more just that he chose to associate himself with that. If a presidential candidate is friends with a murderer, he may not believe in murder, but would you not still question his judgement because of it?

Where is your proof?

so then everyone believes everything their pastor says,

First off, Welcome to PF! Glad you decided to join our community. Why don't you head on over to the Introductions section and tell us a little about yourself? We would all love to get to know you.

In regards to your post, most people are not insinuating Obama believed everything Mr. Wright said. I am sure there are some individuals who do, but that certainly is not the consensus.

Where most people have a problem, is that Obama attended the church for around twenty years, I believe. Usually one does not attend a church with the occasional extreme services as Wright gave if they are opposed to the message.

At least that is one view.

It does not stop there. It was more than Obama simply attending the church. He had a personal friendship with Mr. Wright. Not only did he attend the church for multiple decades, Mr. Wright also married him and his wife, baptized their children, wrote one of his memoirs based upon and inspired by one of Mr. Wright's sermons, and was appointed to Obama's African American Religious Leadership Committee.

Personally, I believe his attendance of the church and the entire controversy surrounding it was blown far out of proportion. I am simply showing why some had an issue with it and how it is much deeper than your comment of, "so then everyone believes everything their pastor says."

I agree. Birds of a feather and all of that are traditional human observations. One could also tie Obama with Bill Ayres and his wife. Their relationship was closer and longer- standing than advertised, but that doesn't mean the friendship was malevolent.

There may have been nothing to it, but the campaign and its allies in the press tried to keep Obama's associations out of the news, because they understood how voters would react.
