Deconstructing Government: the FCC

The federal communications commission came into existence when there was only one electronic mass medium: radio. With the technology of the day, there were few information channels. Now there are thousands, of many kinds. The leftwing has tried endlessly to use the FCC for political purposes, notably the "fairness doctrine". The FCC serves no useful purpose and should be disbanded. There should be some registry of ownership of bandwidth, similar to the registered owners of property, but that doesn't require anything like the FCC. Also should be discarded the notion that "the airwaves" are "public". In an initial offering, all frequencies should be put up for auction by the government, and that should be the end of government meddling in such markets.
