Anyone else following the dismissal of former Cabinet Minister Helena Guergis?
First Prime Minister Stephen Harper holds a press conference to confirm that he referred serious and credible allegations to the RCMP about her. Then his source turns up to be a bankrupt private investigator, and Helena herself says she has not been informed of the charges.
In my view, Harper has bumbled the whole handling of this. The dummy should have simply fired her from Cabinet, and let her sit as a Conservative MP while the RCMP quietly did their investigation. There was no need for the press conference, and thankfully his blunder is costing him in the polls. Might make him think twice the next time he wants to assassinate one of his own.
