Anyone else following the dismissal of former Cabinet Minister Helena Guergis?

First Prime Minister Stephen Harper holds a press conference to confirm that he referred serious and credible allegations to the RCMP about her. Then his source turns up to be a bankrupt private investigator, and Helena herself says she has not been informed of the charges.

In my view, Harper has bumbled the whole handling of this. The dummy should have simply fired her from Cabinet, and let her sit as a Conservative MP while the RCMP quietly did their investigation. There was no need for the press conference, and thankfully his blunder is costing him in the polls. Might make him think twice the next time he wants to assassinate one of his own.

If it's true, I'd laugh if her husband was actually taking advantage of her and stuff.

There seems to be some suggestion of that. Tonight Helena gave a full interview to Peter Mansbridge on The National. I thought she came off very well, honest, contrite, and that she has in fact been mistreated.

While I would probably vote for Harper at the next election, his handling of this particular issue might very well have cost him my vote. I don't like seeing women being roughed up, even if its just their careers being toyed with. Hopefully some common sense will prevail and they will at least let her back into caucus if not return her to the cabinet table.

Well, we'll see. To be honest, I appreciate the efforts Harper has put into getting Canada into a strong recovery. We've really been seeing it here with Canada's Economic Action Plan. I mean, you are right that there are stuff he does like this which doesn't please everyone, but remember this. Jean Chr?tien promised to get rid of the GST. No one's perfect.

That's a very good point. In fact, now that you mention it, Chretien fired Herb Gray as Deputy Prime Minister - for no reason at all. Gray then resigned and the NDP won his riding. The winner said, this was never a safe Liberal seat, it was Herb Gray's seat. Tuche, I think he hit the nail on the head. The Liberal's didn't understand what the difference was.

I suppose Helena is not the first MP/cabinet minister to be mistreated by her Prime Minister afterall.
