David... you claimed Americans are increasingly non-religious etc. You were challenged for facts to back that up. You did not do so. Then you asked WillypHD for demo numbers. He provided. Then you changed the subject and suggested Willy had trouble reading. He doesn't. You have difficulty backing up your claims.

Please.... review the below at your leisure and then provide data that backs up your claim. Or don't. But don't suggest that your readers don't get it because those reponding to you are the only ones providing data to back up their claims. You just dismiss them with that snide emoticon. In any event we all await your evidence supporting your claims.

Americans are also increasingly non-religious and even outright atheist.

That is not what the numbers show. What is your source to support this claim?

What numbers would those be?

I'd love to see what you base you're argument (which is contrary to known demographic changes taking place) on.

:giggle: I didn't dispute that, try rereading what I said. What I pointed out was belonging to a religion didn't translate into opposing secularism in most cases. Most Americans will tell you that they're Christians. Most of those will tell you America is secular, too.

right... which is a point no one disagrees about. We have a religious society. We have secular government. The only people who think we have a religious government are lefties who think Christians are evil people who've infiltrated everything and is forcing their values on everyone... a claim devoid of evidence but commonly made.

So the whole, 97% of Americans claim to be belong to religion, you just ignore that? Typical. :giggle: I never claimed Americans didn't associate with religion, I claimed that they're largely secular despite this and the number of people not associating with a religion are growing.

What you did was speculate, get challenged and then refuse (one more time) to offer any support for that speculation. Now that's typical.

Except I'm not challenging the fact that most Americans associate with religion and in fact started out saying myself that 97% of Americans did. I'm simply claiming that America is a secular nation by law and popular opinion.

"nation" is a cultural term to be distinguishged from state

this is why we speak of the emergence of "nation states" in the early 17th century (roughly)

We have a secular STATE and we have a religious NATION

but, reading what you meant rather than what you said.... and in other news water is wet

Thank you Obtuseoberver for the moment of clarity you've provided, I was beginning to wonder if I was missing something here.

David, try to back up what you say with facts, and be more careful with your choice in words.

My country has three million people and I reckon the majority of them are free-thinkers, on all the practical evidence anyway. It used to be the most Protestant country on earth, I believe, which is what happens - the majority of radical protestants tend to have given up religion. We got rid of the official dominance of the Anglican Church early in the Twentieth Century, after a long fight. You don't do our flag, and my Country is called Cymru/'Wales'.

In my country there are many religions followed by millions of people. However, the most popular which I see regularly around me are: Christian, Muslim, Hinduism and Jewish.

In America we have this belief that we are tolerant of all religions. In reality Christianity is the only one that's really accepted.

The belief should be eradicated, and you should leave the USA if you tend to complain about the falsehood that only Christianity is accepted in the USA. If this was the case, they would not be building a bloody mosque right up the road from where the Twin Towers were destroyed. That in itself is insane.

As a fascist, I have called for the destruction of all churches, synagogues, temples, mosques etc. from Canada. Religion must be eradicated for society to properly flourish. Religion is a cancer, and should be treated as such.
