Is History Fake?

History in text books is one of the worst sources of events to possibly learn from. All text books will present some sort of slant to them. The only real way to learn history is to live it, remember it for what it was and try to tell others, but then again it will be how you remembered it, and not how it actually was.
I can agree with you on that. I have people argue with me about something they read about the 50s and 60s. I lived the 50s and 60s and know a little about how things were then.:)

yes how were they Dodge. Let's see, a girl in the 80's (me) has been educated about the 50's / 60's .. so lets see how accurate my text books were.

During the 50's there was a boom in love making because people were back from the war ( WWII circa 1940's), women wore skirts, men greased their hair- and jocks beat up the men who did that. People never had sex unless they were married, everyone drank 'soda' from the soda jerk and drank Coke from a glass bottle. Boys gave their varsity jackets to girls, but they only held hands. There was NO SEX!

In 1960's they said SCREW this, I'm not going to be Betty homemaker so they took off their skirts, men grew their hair, and they had sex everywhere, on the lawn at campus, on the parents car, and they smoked a lot of dope. Women burned their bra's, and people protested the Vietnam war. They danced to the Beatles, The Monkee's and rocked with The Who. They girls stopped shaving their legs, everyone got really hairy, high & horny.

hahaha -

And that is American History 101 via the good old textbooks & documentaries presented to us' .. funnily enough, most of my teachers had lived through the 50's & 60's, so I don't know why they would have fed us that info except it amused them. I know it's exaggerations of the truth.

Hey I think I saw that movie. People did stuff, they just did not talk about it.;) Actually the best part of those days for me was less stress. But our teachers lied to us too. They told us in case of a nuclear attack (from Russia) to get under our desk and close our eyes. Protection from the "flash" you know.

No you still go blind. And America bombed Japan to save American lives. And since one of my relatives was a POW in a Japanese prison camp I am damn glad they did.:)

In the 1970's a woman in her 70's told me that when she left home her mother told her that her great-grandmother had told her that it was a rare man who wouldn't ask, and a rare woman who couldn't say no if she wanted to.

I also haven't studied the bible since I was a child. I don't necessarily look at it as being fake, I just didn't enjoy the wording of it.

Me neither. I eventually discovered that there are more versions than just the King James Version ("KJV"), which throws me with its thees, thous etc. Archaic English. My favourite is the New International Version which I find reads easily.

Try going here: http://www.biblegateway.com/keyword/, then look for the second row down where it invites you to choose versions.

The upper left corner gives you search options.

Not archaic, Court English. The average person at the time spoke the same as we do except for a few differences in slang and Okay (who knew you could create an entire language with just 1 word :giggle:) hadn't been invented yet.

History cannot be called fake because it is the men of the past that make men of the present simply by virtue of their character and lives.

I definitely agree with this. It's the past men who wrote and created it.
But there are some, especially those that aren't written, seems to be exaggerated as the tales goes from a person mouths to another.

Most history is pretty accurate as the text books are wrote from primary sources, and lots of them, not just the one source. But there are different story's in some history book and they all don't say the same stuff. As maybe the UK history of world war two will be completely different side of the story on the Germans behalf. So yeah some history is altered.

I don't actually think that history was fake but it seems somehow interesting too and sometimes I assumes myself there too. I think some history about science fiction or astronomy was fake which some writers normally assumes how thing was at that time!

Yes I agree with you because we could learn things from previous people or you could say the inventions are also related to history that we are advancing through better and better.

History cannot be termed fake because it is only through history that we traverse the present times to reach the future!

And reading history books are really interesting. History was even my favorite subject back in high school.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKqXu-5jw60&feature=related It wasn't the teachers, it was the Gov. Less stress ! The Korean War, the Cold War, the Red Scare, the Civil Rights movement, the Bay of Pigs, the assassination of JFK and the Vietnam War and the protesters. I wouldn't consider the 50's and 60s less stressful !

Hey, wait a minute! I was a greaser in the 50s, the way I remember it, we were the ones that beat up the jocks, punks! We were screwing the girl friends of the jocks that were just holding hands, those girls were putting on the "goodie two shoes" front but really wanted some action and never mentioned marriage, just if you had protection. They fed you that BS because most were jocks and it's hard to admit that the greasers ruled.

But reading books have some fake stories about history which changes the idea of things completely!
Have you heard about the Romance of the Three Kingdoms? It's a historical novel based on real events.
But after doing some research, some happenings in the said novel are fictitious.
