Is it better to learn from history or are some things best forgotten?

History is what it is, people make war only. normally war is fought for control. Weather it be wealth, freedom, oppression, our other forms of control. Using historical injustices to build the case for war is a common method. That goes for any attempt to devide people.

You use a point of injustice to justify an act of aggression. And almost always is an injustice against a person that is similar in one way or another to the aggressor. We are entering a strang phase of this in the.USA. Where crimes that cross ethnic lines are considered worse than crimes that happen with in an ethnicity, this is an effort to divide us. It isn't more wrong for me to kill a person because they are gay a opposed to them stealing your money. Murder is murder. Don't allow your self to be fooled.

It is silly to suppose that we can somehow rub out history, but I think we need, as 'nations', to start letting go of grievances against people who died a long time ago but happen to have the same label as our present neighbours. Sufficient to the day is the evil thereof: let us avoid becoming the equivalent of good little Irish children who always believe their parents' drunken maunderings and arm to avenge wrongs they are none to clear about on people who didn't do them. Such 'history' is a disgusting nightmare, and we need to wake up.

There are certain bits of history that do help people to learn. For example, World War II. Everything that expired there can be learned from, in order to not repeat the same mistakes. Most history is like that. There may be some bits of it, like how many wives Henry VIII, that don't really help anyone.. but bigger things, huge battles that affected countries for years, how cultures have changed, etc are good things to teach our children.

I think we can learn from history yes and in somethings we do. Though it is debatable on where the human race truly learns.

I think as far as scientific advancements we have come a long way making big strides in all fields of science.

I think where we lack in learning is Human Nature. We are still a very destructive species. This is where I feel we have not learned. Instead of letting people do their own thing within reason as long as it does not effect another group of people. We have not learned we still try to conquer, destroy, and assimilate those people into what we feel is right.

I don't think we learn how to coexist and truly don't think it will ever be possible.

You have touched on a few subjects I enjoy.
The reason we see science as a more educated and advancing example of our evolving society...is because it is an inevitable result of the very function of science. Fact based knowledge leads to logical reaction to events.

The reason we see human behavior as less advanced is because it is an inevitable result of illogical and emotional response to events. We as a species are driven by far more than factual Data...and thus we react in ways contrary to logic.

We are only Human.

Agreed we are only human. Though we are human with one distinct difference from every other species. We have the ability to decipher from right and wrong.

We have the power to choose. Every species other then ours is set in a program if I may. They follow that program regardless and 98 percent of the time don't stray from it.

We on the other hand have that ability to do what we want we don't run on animal instinct as all other species do.

With this difference comes the failure to coexist with the world and people around us. As a whole we are the most destructive species ever to inherit the earth.

Are all humans unable to coexist I would have to say yes because anger and resentment are among our chief downfalls we all have it and all feel that way.

Those who preach to coexist are no more able to coexist then the man who could care less.

Though we have made great advancements in many fields we will never advance in this field it is virtually impossible.

It is most certainly better to learn from the mistakes of the past than to try to forget them. That's the only way to make any progress.

The past should be remembered for the lessons we had lifted from these events and apply whatever we had learned in all our future endeavors.
