Is Obama getting too comfy with the GOP?

During the campaign, Barack Obama pledged to work together with Republicans to get things done. Now while that is a good thing to avoid deadlock, does anybody think he might be getting too friendly with the GOP?

He's already set the record for the most presidential visits to the hill in only two weeks. That's right, he's been to Capitol Hill more times in two weeks than Presidents go in their entire two terms.

Furthermore, it's starting to get rediculous frankly.

Superbowl party. I mean, really?

Government was designed to be partisan. And while im sure many will say that BO and the GOP are completely opposites, it still sets a dangerous precedent.

Or am I just being paranoid? What do you think?

Nothing wrong with a bit of co-operation. Having Congress and the president at war with one another didn't really help us much over the last few years.

I also think that his high number of visits is just because he was really working hard to sell the stimulus package. He was working the democrats really hard too.

I think it's a good thing that most previous administrations have lacked. Like you said, Obama and the GOP have HUGE differences. I would be worried if they were closer on beliefs but ideologically they couldn't be more different.

I don't see how it's much of a problem right now but I understand your skepticism.

As long as he doesn't get too friendly with the corrupt side of the GOP then it's all good. However, that was definitely an interesting observation.

I really hope that the promise of a 15000 line of credit toward new house buyers and the lower mortgage interest rates will be actually done. We sure could use some help here in southern cali.

The cynic in me just thought of this reason. Do you think he could be doing a power play to limit Pelosi? Show her that he really is willing to work with both parties and therefore won't depend as much on her political position.

I think Obama has good intentions, but he must realize that these meetings are not going to get the true conservatives to change their opinions on the issues. It is a good notion, but whether or not it will work is another story.

@Parakeet I never thought of that, but that could be part of his plan.

Well I wouldn't say he's getting too "comfy" with the GOP, I mean he does have the meetings for a reason.. there really isn't too much of a problem right now, and telling by your post, I'm not sure if your asking as if it's as problem or not, but yeah.. if you think it is, I probably know where you're coming from. I guess he's doing the best as he can like he promised, let's just wait and see for true facts ^^

It's possible hes trying to downplay her role and I sure hope so. She is the biggest disgrace to her position in congressional history.

I don't think there's any problem in regard to Obama putting forth the extra effort to reach across the aisle. After all, during his campaign this was one of his main points of what he would change in Washington.

However this an instance you've already touched on so I'm not sure where the paranoia sets in? To begin with the GOP seems to have it set that Obama is a 'hard-core left liberal', and unless you think that behind the scenes both parties have the same agenda (which to a certain extent I also believe to be true).

At this point in time however its best for Obama to get as many friends as you can to get through this initial tough transitional period and the government can bicker amongst themselves later.

Or perhaps its something simpler.... Keep your friends close, and keep your enemies closer?
