People generally feel they know what they are going to get with a Clinton. This known, may be a comfort to some, but to others the sense of the known has become a negative. (i.e. , I know my president is liberal, corrupt, a politician, etc.). people become comfortable with uncomfortable things. An abused wife may not leave, because the unknown (leaving), is scarier than the known, of (staying).
Trump, on the other hand is decidedly, an unknown. The only thing you know is you don't know him, and you don't know what he will do next. people who are tired of the known, are moved to him, maybe because of or in spite of his erratic nature. For this group, the unknown candidate outweighs the known.
