Well, I suppose it's a way of saying 'a lot', but very few of the many people I know have got divorced. On the other hand, very few of the people I know have ever voted tory, so I suppose there are a lot of undeveloped brains out there in the caves! Ugh!

I have no problem with same sex couples. As far as religion is concerned, I think a lot of the hangups religious people have is because they automatically see same sex relationships as fornication. I disagree with that, love is love and in my opinion a same sex couple who feel true love for each other are closer to God than a hetero couple who go through the motions. Don't tell the Church I said that.

The religious component is not really relevant, people get married for civil reasons, mainly to pool assets. The Bible regards marriage as a legal issue. The religious component is completely imagined
The religious component is completely imagined? Then how come same sex marraige is such a contentious issue? Is it because all of the non-religious people object to a sausage fest in the city-county building? I think not.
I agree that marraige is a contractual issue but if most people believed that then this issue wouldn't be an issue.
I see no problem, but there are many people advocating this for political reasons, to go against religious institutions in order to defame them, and although many gays support, are just wanting or caring about it.
If heterosexual marriage is already finished, there will be those who will want gays.
