Mosque proposal near Ground Zero

I feel they have a legal right to build the Grond Zero mosque but am strongly opposed to it for the following reasons.....

1) Imam says America is partially responsible or 9/11.

2) Imam's wife has said all Americans hate Muslims.

3) When first asked if they would receive funding from the terrorist state of Iran they said "no comment".

4) Imam said Osama bin Laden was "made in America".

5) Just a little insensitive. The wound is still fresh.

1. The fact remains, it's true.

2. Source?

3. Maybe because they didn't know whether or not any Iranians wanted to donate?

4. Well many think the CIA had a hand in his rise. I don't buy it but the comment isn't too far off the wall.

5. Thick skin then?

Negative. Never bought into that mentality. I'm from the school of you blame those responsible. America had absolutely no hand in 9/11. Can't blame us for the warped and demented minds of terrorists who rape the interpretation of the Quran.

1. Blame is a matter of opinion not fact. It is still true that you are blaming the victim. Most Americans disagree with you and instead blame the terrorists who attacked on 9/11.

3. If a hundred million dollar check showed up in your mailblox wouldn't you want to know where it came from? Also, iirc, Rauf has said he will be transparent regarding funds received. To do so would require knowing where the money came from (by specific donor or noting an anonymous donor).

5. Most Americans are as happy as you are to forget about 9/11 and the people who attacked us.

Actually you can blame us. However, as a genral rule those who do tend to take the view that America a nasty country and eschew the notion of American exceptionalism and ignore the tremendous good we do daily around the world. They think we had it coming on 9/11. I think that's a very shallow pov representing indoctrination and a great lack of curiosity.

1. Just because we didn't launch the attack, doesn't mean our policies didn't fule the extremism that lead to it.

3. Honestly, no. I'd cash it and wouldn't want to know.

5. Modern Americans are pansies. We make the French look... Better.

1. Huh?

3. Sounds dishonest to me.

5. Yes, many modern Americans make me fell ashamed. Especially some youngsters.

That's absurd. That's like saying a woman deserved to be raped because her skirt was too short and blouse was too low.

You can blame the victims if you wish. I'll stick to blaming those actually responsible.

Everyone makes me ashamed. The young (yes, I know I'm part of this group) don't care as long as their iPhones are working and the old seem to only pay lip service to the Republic before calling for it's effective end.

The US today is a centralized provencal empire that tries to pass itself off as a decentralized federal democratic-republic. The result is said empire is inefficiently run and nobody seems to notice the Republic is history.

More like saying a murder victim raped their murder's spouse.

You and I think alike on this issue, Gunny. Once again, nice to see you here.

Where do you come up with this stuff, David? If it wouldn't earn me another demerit point, I'd suggest you stop whining and start working to improve things. That's how we did things in the old days, anyway.

There's still a lot of good in America. There's still great hope for our future. The hope doesn't lie in the idiots we've elected, but in our own resourcefulness, and that's how it's always been here.

What makes you think I don't plan to do something? I'm only 22, my political options, while they exist, are somewhat limited until I hit at least 25. As for volunteering, campaigning, advocating, ect. I'm currently carless and my jobs doesn't pay me ****.

Hopefully I'll remedy these 2 handicaps in time to "do something about it" as you say.

Also, I wasn't including you in that, just calling the general population as I see it.

I'm not trying to hammer you, David (well, maybe a little bit, but only to encourage you to not see yourself as a victim). Being 22 is not a handicap; it's an asset. Being poor isn't a handicap either; it just means you have a great opportunity ahead of you to prove yourself. I mean, geez, dude, take what you have, as little as it may be, and make something of yourself, and some day you might be old and poor and diapered like me.

See how nice it is to have old guys encouraging you?

More seriously, I know where you are. I was there. A long while ago I was a 20-year-old college student working two jobs, and I had a wife who was suffering from terminal kidney disease (she beat the odds and survived until 2002, when breast cancer finally sent her elsewhere) and two daughters who were born extremely prematurely, and medical bills that were almost killing me, and I made it. Not sure how I did, but I did.

Anyway, poorness won't kill you. Neither will youngness. Neither will carlessness. We all enter naked, and leave the same way. It's how we conduct ourselves in the interim that matters.

Indeed. My point isn't that I was helpless, just that I'm not out of that rut everyone seems to get into when transitioning into full adulthood.

Which takes us back to evaluating the act. Either it is justified or it is not. If you think that the attacks were justified I vigorously disagree. If they were not justified then you're arguing for no good reason.

3. Wow. That lack of curiosity can be very dangerous.

5. You are unfamiliar with our servicemen and women. There has never been a tougher and more efficient military known to man.

In any event I omitted a crucial word from my previous reply. I meant most Amnericans are NOT as happy as you are to forget about 9/11.

Don't presume to speak for your age group. I know many young men in the Navy and Army who feel they are duty bound to protect our country. (no offense intended Gunny, all my friends that were Marines have now been honorably discharged).

The US today is a centralized provencal empire that tries to pass itself off as a decentralized federal democratic-republic. The result is said empire is inefficiently run and nobody seems to notice the Republic is history.

good grief

More like saying a murder victim raped their murder's spouse.

So then you are of the opinion that we had it coming... I vigorously disagree
