The President signed into law a measure that gives tax credits to businesses for hiring jobless veterans. The move was driven by the expected increased in returning troops from the operations in Iraq.

The veterans need some help. Back in the days of the draft companies had to give your job back when you returned. My cousin came back and drove a truck until they found him another job in the company. Which was tricky since he lost his licence for DWI as soon as he came back from Vietnam.

That law is still on the books. A marine friend/co-worker of mine has been getting 0 hr. weeks because he can't be taken off the payroll unless he quits.
