Knowing that the West's commitment to humanitarianism will prevent that and knowing the aid the West sends to prevent it will prop you up and provide a propaganda victory is very logical if you're not worried about the little guy. The advent of nukes is insurance against the West ever deciding war is a better deal than extortion. Everything NK does is calculated.
Thus the nukes. If NK seems illogical, it's only becuase we view government as being for and by the people. If you accept it as a mafia looking to enrich and perpetuate itself, it makes far more since.
It seems that Americans (accepted this is a generalisation) seem to view the world as they think it should be rather than how it actually is. This is why you are getting yourselves into wars/situations which you find it difficult to extract yourselves from.

That is the error which most people here make --- to think that government is for and by the people. That is what makes it appear to be senseless.
The whole structure of American society makes far more sense if you "think of it as a Mafia looking to enrich and perpetuate itself."

My point is that the US is an all conquering empire while NK is gangland with no ambition beyond leadership's personal wealth. You don't want to be on the wrong side of either but they're not the same thing.
