We didn't originally have 50 states and (a lot more than a handful) of teritories either.

I generally agree with the underlying sentiment, here in the U.S. we are going through our own version of reworking our national individuality and dealing with many of the same issues brought to the forefront by Brexit. We also have the "Alt-Right issues trying to change what our country was founded upon and has stood for.
I see this partially a result of Islamic terror doing as intended and scaring both of our countries into panicked ignorance and hatred of the "other" which is becoming manifest as anyone not a white Christian. Steve Bannon and Company have a very ripe field of Melons to harvest here.
