Palestinian statehood bid at the UN

Everyone knows that the Palestinians are going to make a bid for full statehood status at the United Nations and that the United States is going to annoy every Muslim in the world by vetoing the resolution. What I want to know is how clever will the Palestinians be (someone suggested they should include two paragraphs in the resolution quoting the key part of President Obama's "Just Peace" speech word for word and watch the USA embarass themselves by vetoing the President's own words.

Will the Palestinians immediately reapply for limited membership to the General Assembly (no vetoes but also little legal status), or wait for the political fallout? Would the USA follow through on its threats to the Palestinian Authority and drop aid to the Palestinians, or is it just a bluff? Will Britain abstain, vote no without vetoing, or use the veto? How many American Embassies will be attacked after the veto is used?

There's a wealth of possible topics here, people. Share your thoughts!

Add to this the fact that the Turks seem hellbent on dragging NATO into a war with Israel and the next year or so should be 'fun'.

How can you get statehood when you have no state?

They have the West Bank and (nominally) the Gaza Strip and recognition as a state by most nations. They have a state, they're just forcing (or trying to) Israel to recognize them. UN recognition means they can actually sue Israel over it's settlements (and probably win) which would force Israel to ether abandon them or find itself in violation of international law with few friends to protect them from the consequences that come with such violations.

The US is in an odd position with this. We're pro-Israel and pro-Palestine, we've called for Israel to recognize Palestine not 2 months ago and now promise to veto a Palestinian statehood bid and while the Zionist lobby has an iron grip on the US Gov't, public opinion (even among Jews) is increasingly anti-Israel (or more accurately anti-Zionist). Quite the hot potato to land in Obama's lap.

Guess who had the West Bank before Israel went in? Jordan did. There was never any Palistinian state there. This whole propoganda thing about a Palestinian state is a farce. I wish the Jews would just crush them and be done with it.

Great comment posted under the video:
You do realize that most of the Jews in Israel are Mizrahi & have inhabited the land for centuries, while the "Palestinians" are really just a mix of Syriac, Bedouin and Jordanian people?
Most of the land that was Israel pre-1967 was purchased by Jews from absentee Bedouin landlords. Israel declared their independence and offered citizenship to Arab inhabitants. Some took it, & those who did get more humanl rights than they would in any Arab country other than perhaps Lebanon.

Well, Jordan did illegally occupy Judea and Samaria in 1948. We don't want to kill anyone, the Israeli Government and people (over 80%) support a two-state solution.

The problem with the UN bid is that Israel's position (and the US's) is that Palestinian statehood can only be achieved by direct negotiations with Israel (example - South Sudan), rather than by unilateral means, which is likely to culminate in further violence and bloodshed (example - withdrawal from the Gaza strip).

Whenever I get depressed, I just go onto some pro-Palestinian site and I am reminded that I own the banks, world Governments and the media. I feel so much better...

I always love how Liberals call people who believe in limited government and traditional values "far rightists", and meanwhile they consider their own immoral anti-Christian socialist POV's to be the norm.

No he doesn't because I believe in limited government as well. I actually believe in it more than you (and Patrick for that matter) from what I've read of your posts. I might even argue you are a statist relative to me. What part of conquering the world, keeping up wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. and military bases all around the world as well as Federally paid-for walls and/or ID cards, etc. do you find to be limited government?

I've read your posts. You're a leftists sympathizer, regardless of how much you say you're not.

No, I am someone who tries to look at things objectively and not on party lines. Both parties are often wrong. I realize that. You choose to play into the game which benefits the special interests groups and allow them to continue to steal from me, the country, and ironically you too. You just don't realize it because you are sooo into supporting team GOP and team "conservative" that you've forgotten to consider if the game is even being played correctly.

On a side note, why are you so afraid of the word liberal? Not only do terms such as liberal and conservative vary in definition depending on who you are speaking too, but they change over time. More importantly, it is actually the issues and policies that affect people, not the monikers. This is why I try not to label myself as any of them- it really doesn't matter and usually just creates confusion. I wonder if you knew the founding fathers were considered liberals of their time (now considered classical liberals) and on the scale of world history even you would be considered liberal for your support of democratic government.

You shouldn't confuse him with facts, he'll hurt himself trying to comprehend them.
