It's a great loss. Hope someday we can get over the need to have saints for representatives. He was a very capable leader, and well respected (for all the right reasons).

His extramarital affair seems like a side issue and it could have been kept secret if he had not publicised it by resigning from the post and the real reason is likely to be the Bengazi Fiasco which the CIA failed to prevent and assess the nature of the attack properly and the timing of his resignation is right because Obama is reshuffling his cabinet for his second term.

That seems to be a popular idea, that he was forced into this.

It honestly seems so "out of the blue" and obscure, that it is likely that he was forced, or at least coerced.

I doubt that's the reason, Benghazi in a non-issue drummed up by FOX. How many embassies have been attacked over the years with little coverage beyond the initial report? This wasn't Iran and the folks responsible got ran out of the country by the Libyans.

That said this does smack of blackmail. I wonder what they have on him?

Or, it could just be exactly what he said it was. There IS a code of honor in his profession. It doesn't seem unreasonable to me at all that he felt compelled to resign.

Honor and CIA should never be used together unless in the negative. We're talking about spies after all.

Possibly, yet he was a soldier first I believe, and an honorable man first. So until proven otherwise, I personally choose to believe him.

A man that honorable would have never cheated on his wife. ;)

Honorable people make mistakes too. I don't believe a mistake like that cancels out a lifetime of "honorable service". But you're welcome to your opinion too! But I was referring more to the way he dealt with the issue (that's where the discussion came from) rather than the cheating itself~ ;)

True, but it does seem unlikely

First General Ham announced his retirement, now David Petreus, both prominent in the Benghazi debacle....hmmmmm
I believe we'll find out several things in the coming weeks.
Not everybody that works for the CIA are spies, & most are as honorable as any other large group of people. Some have warts, some don't.

What Bangazi debacle? Embassy attacks are a dime a dozen and combat teams were fighting back inside 25 minutes.

As I said, this smacks of blackmail but Benghazi has nothing to do with it.

If Benghazi was like any other attack against our interests, why did the administration lie about it, that it was a video?

Wendy, in my mind the entire Benghazi episode has been trumped up by conservative media in a stupid childish attempt to discredit the President. It's another in a long line of "stupid moves" the GOP has made (such as attempts at REAL voter suppression), involving itself in moral values legislation instead of paying attention to the middle class that has been devastated over the last 30 or so years, and while attempting to look like the "party of small government", they have turned into the party of "big social values government".

In a demography like the United States, that simply won't work anymore. We're not all from Kansas. Sorry!

I know that with both the Dems & Repubs it's tit for tat, the Dems did it to Bush, the Repubs will & are trying to "get Obama". The Benghazi debacle is something different. SUre there's hypoberle from Repubs, but the Obama admin did lie about the cause of that attack being a video & they knew it.
According to Ms Lambs testimony they watched that attack in real time. hy did the admin lie about it?
About the "conservative media"....CBS witheld an edited section of their interview with Obama, the part where he said it was a terrorist attack,. Is CBS part of the "liberal media"? The very next day after that interview Obama was sticking to the video srtory.
There's too many loose ends, too many coincidences.

They didn't lie about anything. An anti-Islam video sparked region wide protests and during such a protest in Benghazi, the consulate (not embassy) gets attacked. It was logical to assume there was a connection and as soon as the CIA started saying it was a premeditated, the administration backtracked. There is no story here beyond 4 American's falling victims to an occupational hazard. The CIA responded inside 25 minutes, the consulate was evacuated, a pro-America Libyan militia ran the terrorists out of the country and seized their HQ and the Libyan gov't has taken legal action against the terrorists and their origination. Sometimes people die even when everything gets done right.

The Pentagon is investigating the top US commander in Afghanistan, Gen John Allen, for sending potentially "inappropriate" emails to a woman linked to ex-CIA director David Petraeus, officials say.

The FBI is investigating communications from Gen Allen to Jill Kelley, who is said to have been threatened by Gen Petraeus' ex-mistress, Paula Broadwell.

Gen Allen denies any wrongdoing.

I find it strange, that people think they are more informed than the pentagon, state dept., CIA, and congress.
None of which accept the "Lie" argument in the Benghazi situation.

To me, making a claim such as this:
but the Obama admin did lie about the cause of that attack being a video & they knew it.
, points to a misunderstanding, if not ignorance of the issue...or a wish to project an opinion as fact.

The ongoing investigation may provide enough data to form a fact based opinion that there was a conspiracy to lie (though I do not see why they would do so), until then however, it seems foolish to pretend we know more than the people who actually know.
