Same sex marriage - has the time come?

I like this. As I believe this too. I found a quote on this a few weeks ago that really describes how I feel about this:

The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge
Stephen William Hawking, British Physicist (1942- )
:)

And Einstein said: "there are just two things that are infinite. The universe and human stupidity. And i'm not so sure about the universe."

In my opinion, universe, as said by Einstein, is infinite because you can travel endlessly in space and there is no end for your travels. Meaning, universe is a very vast plane not a cube, wherein a cube has sides and corners.

I think most scientists are now agreed that the universe is finite, and that our universe may actually be a bubble attached to another universe, a spore of sorts.

But, back to same sex marriage. The Maine law was signed today.

Maine passed a law allowing same sex marriages. They're the fifth state to do so. It's also giving DC a bit of energy with their bill to recognize same sex marriages conducted in other states.

Ah thanks for the explaination.
There's a kinda wierd news on tv a few days ago. A gay and a lesbian get married on the church. It's not happening often so there are lots of people watching what will happen. On the top of that, they have already 5 children.

So far I have not run into any mean "trolls" here. I for one one respect your opinion. Sometimes I may not agree or understand it. But I can respect it anyway. Long as there is no sex with children or animals I try to understand.

Awwww, no animal sex? lol, Just kidding

Maybe ashamed for not coming first.

Or ashamed for passing it so late.

Or ashamed for it only passing in 2009, when most other Western countries have already done so.

The rest is okay with me. But I really don't care what any other countries think. Most of them only like us when they want something. We have plenty of "fair-weather" friends.

Economically, the US may be the top of the list (followed closely by France and Canada) but i think most Western countries think of America as a sort of social timewarp.

Although, i have to ask this, because i'm not sure what exactly you might mean:

What do we (ie. Germany, Eurozone, EU) want from you (by which i mean the US)?

Just to play Devil's Advocate

The EU still needs the guns of the US. We are pretty much responsible for peace in large sections of the world. It's our bribe money that kept Israel and Egypt from mixing it up. It's our NATO agreement that provides an iron wall against Russia. If we ever get our act together and move into Africa, it'll mainly be US troops.

The EU just doesn't have the force to really stand behind any of their decisions. Hopefully this would change at some point in the future. It's getting kinda lonely with just us and China.
--

Side note - The California Supreme Court should be reviewing Prop 8 soon. It'll be interesting to see how that one turns out.

NATO is a relic of the cold war. It is outdated and unnecessary in the modern world.

It's refusal to introduce a rule of "only in retaliation" and its continuation of the idea and possibility of a preemptive strike shows that it has the potential to be used for imperialistic purposes. It might also be used for threatening or blackmailing a nation. It also may be used as a tool of oppression, subjugation and/or evisceration of a non-member state.

It is an obstacle to nuclear disarmament and an obstacle to world peace and should be decommissioned.

I'm glad you're only playing devil's advocate.

The EU has a QRF (Quick Reaction Force), which can mobilise if there is a threat to a member nation and will help defend it.

The imperialism of the US is considerable. The interventionism of it has left the nation's ideas of moral superiority a joke in international circles.

The US is clearly extremely jingoistic. In attacking nations that pose little or no threat to the US, it depletes its moral standing in the world.

I'm sorry if this sounds insulting and it's not meant to be personal, it's just a fact.

Yeah it is a little insulting. But I am getting use to that. I knew years ago we had very few real friends in the world. And our dumb-butted leaders tried to buy some friends. We need to go back to making our own TVs and tell the rest take us as we are or leave us alone. I hate all this global crap anyway. Some other countries will burn our flag in one hand while holding out the other for help. Let the fair weather know it all "friends" carry the load and see how they do. Maybe they can send us some aid. And protect us for a change. This judgmental crap is getting old to some of us that remember helping some of the "so called friends".

If we were as bad as people say we are we would have run Germany and Japan into the ground. But no, we always want to help "rebuild" what we just destroyed. All we are guilty of is "stupidly" We taught the rest of the world to treat us as butt-wipes.

*I just remembered that this was a thread on gay marriage...might split this later if we want to continue

The EU response force is a 60,000 man group that could possibly deploy fully in 60 days (if things go well). That's far from our quick response Bradley groups that can be at a country's capital in 72 hours.

Plus they aren't close to ready. They have no command structure, so they are still only able to act through NATO gear that's in place.

I don't see why NATO needs a "retaliation only" clause. How would this not hurt their ability to deal in humanitarian issues and civil wars. This issue is what turns the UN into an ineffective group. They just don't shoot the UN guys, and they can't retaliate. There were stories of whole groups of civilians being gunned down in front of the peacekeeping forces, but they could do anything since they weren't being attacked (also didn't have the resources anyway).

How is NATO an obstacle to disarmament? It's the big stick we keep in the closest in case the quiet talk fails. Diplomacy 101. If Russia and China were happily disarming at a steady clip, then we'd jump on the bandwagon. Not happening now (or probably in my lifetime).

Yeah. This is a same sex marriage thread.
I have just known that a certain comedy actor here in our country went in the US just to get married with a man. Because our country doesn't allow those kinds of marriages.

Here is another actor that after sometime open up and suprises the whole country with his(or her) new look:

Take note, he was once an action star in the 90's.

Nah! I don't like the fact that there are American soldiers and nuclear weapons in Germany still but i appreciate them, well, you, not wiping us off the map.

Also, Britain proved that doesn't work after they tried doing that after WW1. *sorrowful look* If only 1919 had been a success. *mutters* f***ing Freikorps...
