One of the primary concerns of many Western governments in recent years has of course been the use of nuclear or other missiles on everyone's respective nations. The strategy against potential attack has of course been on the offensive with the war in Iraq, the expanding war on terror, etc.
Some would suggest (including myself) that we should begin to focus on the defensive instead of the offensive as it can be a lot more cost effective and of course we can keep many lives from being lost in war. One of the potential defenses against a missile attack can be the establishment of an SDI missile defense system, which was actually brought up by President Reagan during his time in office, but never came to fruition. Such a device would essentially be able to track down any missiles headed towards the respective region and be able to shoot it down before it was able to hit land. This could of course save many lives and certainly reduce the threat that terrorists, etc. pose. On the down side, it would certainly be expensive to implement.
So what do you all think about this? Is it a good idea, and should the United States and other Western nations talk more about this?
