It has nothing to do with millennials. The South boomed in the 60's, bringing northerners down looking for economic and educational opportunities. Those Northerners had kids. Those kids, with Northern parents and surrounded by fellow Northern immigrants grew up Northern but had Southern connections. Some of those Northern 'Southerners' ran for political office.

Northerners have long lamented that they won the war but failed to kill Southern nationalism (you can see the truth of this when the rhetoric slips and they go from lamenting rasism to wondering why we defend symbols of a defeated nation). Now being in a position of power in the South, they work to erase Southern identity (and it oftentimes has nothing to do with the CSA itself [becuase it's not really about racism], see the change of the Floridian anthem) and Southerners, naturally, resist.

Enter the White Nationalists, They don't give a shit about Southern nationalism (the recent terrorist attack was perpetrated by an Ohioan) BUT nationalism is at some fundamental level the same across the board. By attaching themselves to events such as the Charleville rally, they can seemingly inflate their numbers and increase the volume of their voices making their message mainstream even if they themselves aren't. That their ideology justifies the rechtic of the Northerners means nothing as they aren't Southern nationalists themselves and indeed is a boon as the more Southern reactions that Northern repression triggers, the more opportunities they have to play parasite.

The Northerners get the same sort of bandwagoning (albeit with less sinister motivations) and you end up with mass protests and rioting at events that should only be attracting government officials and a few hundred students of Southern history.

They are growing up purposeless. many don't know what the civil war was, they just know it is now a social justice fight with a reward at the end. they create purpose based on a steady diet of Hollywood-MSM-leftism. they are rewarded for performing acts of social justice like:

-yelling slurs to cops

-setting a US flag on fire

Confederate soldiers ,sailors, and Marines that fought in the Civil war were made U.S. Veterans by an act of Congress in in 1957, U.S. Public Law 85-425, Sec 410, Approved 23 May, 1958. This made all Confederate Army/ Navy/ Marine Veterans equal to U.S. Veterans. Additionally, under U.S. Public Law 810, Approved by the 17th Congress on 26 Feb 1929 the War Department was directed to erect headstones and recognize Confederate grave sites as U.S. War dead grave sites. Just for the record the last Confederate veteran died in 1958. So, in essence, when you remove a Confederate statue, monument or headstone, you are in fact, removing a statue, monument or head stone of a U.S. VETERAN.

These are not headstones or gravesites and were not erected by the war dept.

Columbus isn't just offensive, it's bad history. Everyone knew the world was round, he never set foot in the Americas and the Norse had colonized Greenland and Newfoundland 500 years before.
