The cost of healthcare in the United States is 62 percent higher than that in Switzerland.
Americans pay more than $7,900 per person for healthcare each year -- far more than any other OECD country -- but still die earlier than their peers in the industrialized world.
Meanwhile, Americans receive comparatively little actual care, despite sky-high prices driven by expensive tests and procedures.

Lifespan comparisons don't accurately reflect healthcare quality due to the many extraneous factors involved in it.

The United States has one of the best "fast-acting" system in terms of waiting times.

The United States subsidizes a lot of the world in some healthcare sectors such as with drugs due to the intellectual property rights system.

All things to think about (and more). Ironic that you didn't mention the good stuff in the article such as one of the best preventative systems when it comes to breast cancer, etc. Little biased?

What percent of US population has cancer? Does it justify such high cost of health care. US health care is meant for rich who need pampering.

About 0.47% of US population had cancer. US needs to invest all of its GDP in saving them, no matter how much it will cost. US health care professionals are having a ball while other professions are facing recession.

Not really. You are terribly misinformed.

No country does or can do that. What if the cost was 100% GDP? You will likely kill a lot more people or hurt a lot more people by spending all of GDP on 0.47% than not. Also, our survival rates for many cancers are extremely good in comparison to the rest of the world, including Europe. A lot of this is because of earlier detection because people can generally get appointments quicker and hence catch it earlier here than in many European countries. It really varies by type of cancer, but our survival rates are far from bad. http://www.webmd.com/cancer/news/20080716/cancer-survival-rates-vary-by-country
