US jobless claims surge

New claims for unemployment benefits surged this past week, growing by over 30,000 from the previous week. The numbers were a lot larger than predictions, but some are saying not to look into it too much as longterm trends and other indicators seem ok.

And now it's exactly 1 year and 29 days after electing Obama, and he has still not managed to do anything effective. I hope Palin or some other Republican are elected president in 2012 to save the US out of this situation Obama has caused the last year.

The wealth redistributing Palin?

She talks a big anti-socialist game yet she had no issue sticking it to Big Oil and forcing them to pay their workers and the Alaskan people a huge chunk of the profits. She's a 2-face, why support her?

I don't see Palin as a good candidate in 2012 either. I do not see the experience/knowledge needed for the job, and I do not think she has a firm grasp on how markets work.

Palin did not set up the oil fund. The Alaska Permanent Fund was set up in 1976 (when Palin was 12 years old) when the Alaskan pipeline was built. Some dividends from the fund are paid to residents, some are used to defer state expenses, and some are used for other investments and "rainy day funds"..

Why not support her? She's a person who knows the down to earth, hard working Americans. Obama is the two-faced here, he came from a poor society, and now he's all of a sudden a part of the "upper-elite" and at the same time workers from where Obama's from and all over a America are loosing their jobs every day. Now you can't find anything more two-faced than that.

No, but people were attacking Palin for not being a good presidential candidate, and if she were to challenge Obama in 2012, she would clearly be a better candidate.

I wouldn't trust polls that much. It's one thing to play the "what if" game, it's another thing when a person is actually in the ballot booth.

I like Palin, but she isn't ready to be President. SHe is an outsider, will stand up to the the good old boys, and I think she will clean house, but she doesn't have the experience or knowledge to be President. Neither does Obama.

Palin should run for the Senate, get some experience, show she can kick butt and clean house. That will win over more supporters than giving speeches. Actions speak louder than words.

Of course polls should be a little trusted. The polls around when Obama was elected were pretty correct, why shouldn't these be?

I partially agree. But I believe her experience is great enough to put in her in the role as president.
