I jumped back and forth to it. And it sounded like more of the same to me. He always seems to be on the campaign trail.:(

Did you expect something else? To be honest, i find it difficult to watch politicians' speeches. I usually get up and start shouting at the television/computer - or muttering under my breath.

It was a stinging rebuke of Congress. Blinded by partisanship, our representatives - both Democrat and Republican - failed the American people. In this, we are to blame for our elected representatives are only a reflection of ourselves. You know that you are too partisan when your loyalty to your political party takes precedence over your loyalty to your country. President Obama?s message was clear - it was a call for national unity.

We would do well to learn from our own history. In his farewell address, George Washington (who is considered the father of our country) advised against political parties. The rest of our so-called "founding fathers" had no hesitation to choosing sides.

I'm beginning to wonder whether people are interested in his speeches anymore. I also wonder at the irony of his speech, undertaking to freeze spending for three years, but yet again in the same speech talk about the healthcare reform legislation (will this guy ever let go of this .... surely he should have got the message by now that the reforms submitted by the Dems are too expensive?) and blocking a Senate decision to disallow a Commission of enquiry into Bipartisan Fiscal Commission. Surely if one is sincere about freezing spending, one should stop all kinds of non-essential items such as creating Commissions that are no doubt going to cost money and are only there to serve Obama's ego to fit in with his re-election marketing campaign?

"I've called for a bipartisan fiscal commission, modeled on a proposal by Republican Judd Gregg and Democrat Kent Conrad. This can't be one of those Washington gimmicks that lets us pretend we solved a problem. The commission will have to provide a specific set of solutions by a certain deadline. Yesterday, the Senate blocked a bill that would have created this commission. So I will issue an executive order that will allow us to go forward, because I refuse to pass this problem on to another generation of Americans."
