A CNN reporter clearly shows her bias during the April 15th Tea Party in Chicago

I saw this video recently and I was amazed at how biased the reporter was. Really gets you to think about where certain reporters and news networks stand on certain issues:

Sorry MYP, I had some difficulty downloading the production. Though my experience with reporters is that just by their selection of what news is supposed to be, they are already biased. Reporters can't get away from bias. Life is biased, selfish, greedy and especially in a free capital system such hours, the bottomline also makes a difference to what needs to be considered news and how it will be reported. Sorry ... just my rant, I am very cynical about all news reporting. :)

Hell, I'd be biased and defensive in a group of people that crazy too regardless of if I was neutral or truly biased. When you're getting yelled at, it's only natural to go on the defense - whether you're a reporter or not. I don't blame her at all.

Did you actually get a chance to see the video before it went down? She wouldn't even let the guy who she was interviewing talk. He was calm and just trying to say what he wanted.

As for the hostility, it wasn't anything violent, they were simply protesting and cheering like at any other protest. Reporters face this sort of thing all the time and it doesn't mean one has to get on the defensive. Why do you think CNN pulled the video if they weren't happy with what the reporter did? And don't say copyright because everyone knows thats not the real reason as there are tons of CNN clips on Youtube.

Yea, I watched yesterday. We don't know what happened before she went live though - she may have already had the same arguments being tossed to her.

I'm not saying it was right - it was very unprofessional and I won't argue that. In something that's obviously emotionally charged for both of them though, it's not surprising. I don't even know what this was about so I can only generalize over to something I know - if I were standing in the middle of a pack of fundies who were thanking god for dead soldiers and 911 - I'd be defensive and probably cut them off too. CNN should have sent a reporter who wasn't so emotionally involved in the issue.

Everyone knows reporters are biased and I don't expect them not to be. It's nearly impossible for a human to be completely unbiased.

I think journalism is going down the toilet. I remember when you could watch the same news report every night for years and not know their personal opinion.:(

CNN definitely should've picked someone more neutral, but my main point with this thread was to show what you and I may already know, but not everyone does and that is the fact that every single news station and every reporter is biased. I have often found that when I talk to people from the left, they seem to make Fox out to be a some sort of crazy people station because it is biased. While it is biased, the thing is that every other station is also biased and in my experience a lot of people, especailly from the left, seem to not realize that stations like CNN and MSNBC also have bias. The only real unbiased station is CSPAN because they show direct feeds of events, without commentary.

You are absolutely correct. Who can say Keith Olbermann or Rachel Maddow are unbiased? They get more carried away and crazy than even old Rush Limbaugh.

That is actually a problem that a number of fairly moderate people have with CNN. They generally have a bit of liberal bias. Not bad. Bias is inevitable. The problem is that they don't seem to be aware of it.

MYP - They didn't censor the video because of embarrassment. It was probably copyright. They actually don't have much control over what is taken down or not. They usually outsource that to a team on Youtube who go through newly submitted videos. If they believe that there was a copyright violation on one of their clients, then they take it down.

That was actually what happened with the Rolling Stones (I think it was Rolling Stones) reunion in London. All the videos got pulled down...but the band didn't care. The agency just assumed that their clients would want them pulled. Still made them look like pricks though...kinda sad.

I don't think that is the case in this situation. How do you explain the hoards of other CNN videos on Youtube, especially the ones that have been on there for months and have had thousands of views? I mean the copyright thing could be possible, but I really think whoever asked for it to be taken down- whether it was a Youtube worker or CNN- most probably did it because of their bias, they simply used copyright as a reason for why it should be taken down.

I was really surprised that the video was taken down but there's a lot of other ones on youtube. They were also giving her a pretty hard time so I guess she decided to give it back.

Either way, im pretty surprised she was so confrontational. Does anybody recognize the reporter? She kinda looked like Jessica Yellin but im pretty sure it's not her.

The videos that get taken down tend to be a bit random. It might have just been that this was popular and getting linked a lot. Some person working at the agency went ahead and flagged it for removal.

It's also possible that a conservative viewer flagged it and Youtube had no choice.

Doesn't really seem like it would be something that was truly on CNN's radar. If it was flagged, then they would have probably just had some intern give them the go-ahead to take it down. They really don't gain anything by it being up, so it's probably standard policy to take it down (It's also a straight rip of an interview, so it's a clear cut case of it).

Now...if every single example of it gets taken down in a massive campaign, you'd have something. Otherwise its just a coincidence.

They've actually been stepping it up on taking down copyrighted stuff (for the most part).

I'm not too impressed with YouTube standards of going for dramatic interviews and "unmasking" of scandals and truths. Wonder what others think about YouTube as a source of news reporting, how credible do you find their "productions"?
