As we all know Mr Obama was recently elected as the President of United States of America.
Being an African American he still managed to gain commoners confidence and took the lead from his counterparts. So do you think its one of the greatest achievements of African Americans ever, as African Americans still looked upon backward by the white Americans.

It is absolutely a great achievement for the African American society. So far this society was not in the lime light. It can also be called as a revolution in the American politics. As also said that with a higher job expectations are also high.
So Mr. Barack Obama has to meet the expectations of American people as well as the African American society.

Yes, it is a great accomplishment for the African American society, but it is also a great accomplishment as a whole. On the other side there is so much invested in this man, such as expectations, that if he doesn't live up to those expectations then he might become public enemy number 1, much like President Bush.

I think I have to a agree with creativeelement. I think people expect way too much. I am confident that Barack Obama will do an excellent job, but with all the hype and promises, people expect too much. After all, he is only human. I'm sure American can now at least look forward to having a president that will not embarrass them all the time.

I think it's great no matter who won the elections it was going to go down in History right?

But for an African American man to win them is just a HUGE achievement in my eyes and it is a huge shift from the old days.

HOWEVER

I do have my concerns as there are so many Stereotypical people in the world today and I mean I know of a few religions in America that are against "black" people so I do fear for Obama's security. Before he is even president there were attempts on his life.

I just hope he has a good team of body guards but I do hope and pray no harm will ever come to him.

Race has nothing to do with being a president, even if he's the first "black" (he's not even black, he's just African) president. I hope he brings a lot of change to our country, because as many people know, President Bush didn't really do a good job. No one really knows the real reason why we're in such a financial crisis, but I can assure you that Bush was one of the main reasons that caused it. We needed change, and President Obama will do just that!

I disagree. Though race SHOULDN'T have anything to do with being a president, in this world it really does. I was rooting for Obama from the start, but I honestly didn't think America was ready for an African American man to rule. This is definitively a step forward for America. It was time to move on from the old racist ways of the past, and I believe this election was a major stepping stone in the overall process.

I don't think anyone is saying race has anything to do it but whether we like it or not we live in a stereotypical world.

However his race does affect his position as it's something he will have to take against stereotypical religious groups and cults, it may not matter to me and you but it matters to many people over the world which is why his life has already had attempts on it.

I think it's evidence enough that more black people Mexicans and African American people etc voted than in any other election so I think race does come into it and that's the proof.

However your right in race effects no ones personal ability and he will make a great president I have never debated that for a second :)

I don't care if we live in a stereotypical world.. we shouldn't care about the race of a certain president.. how will the race affect the person's job/role as a president? I mean hearing from his speeches we can clearly conclude that he was a better candidate than McCain, so I don't know what we're complaining about. If we so wanted a white president again, then why the hell did you vote for Obama? If we lived in such a stereotypical world where it would effect the elections, then Obama wouldn't have been voted for president..
