i think poly nailed it. no one is "keeping them on the streets". but in framing the argument this way it opens the door for expected entitlement. like universal healthcare, "everyone is entitled to have healthcare".
One can see the socialist drift move to:
"everyone is entitled to housing"
"everyone is entitled to a job"
no one should have to work or struggle for what they get, the government should just provide it.
the problem for moving people this way is a group that wants entitlements is going to be too apathetic, lazy and sluggish to do anything for your cause. so how do you get them unified ?
take a note from hitler: add an out-group enemy; that entity, party or group that is preventing this natural entitlement...then you get people to move for your cause.
(by the way, if this VOX is one of those "data driven" news sites, i make a cause here how it is not data driven, but politically driven)
