In an attempt to show that he is willing to cut and work with the GOP, President Obama has proposed a 2 year freeze on federal salaries. It is estimated to save $2 billion in fiscal 2011.

In my opinion, it might be a good notion, but freezing federal salaries isn't enough- they need to be cut. Federal salaries are way too high as is, especially when compared to private sector counterparts. After the recession hit, Fed salaries have increased significantly while private sector salaries have not- go figure.

Agreed. I also point out that this is civilian only. Law enforcement and military are exempt, that's millions of people on the Fed payroll that this ignores.

A freeze is a good start though. Bravo Obama.

Further, though I can see some problerms with this suggestion, I'd like to see compensation profiules established. Salaries in the private sector in many professions are published so as to set the market. I think it would be useful to use these as guideposts.

The military barely make enough to put their lives on the line as it is and their pay should never be decreased.

As far as the rest of this goes where are the details? Anyone know? I agree that this sounds good but instead of a freeze we need to CUT everyone in the gov, from what I here this excludes lawmakers.... why? Why do the law makers make so much more than soldiers? Soldiers are doing a much better job, and put themselves in the line of fire to protect you and I, law makers don't deserve what they are paid.

I'm not saying their pay should get cut but I do like how they make this out to be some huge cost saving measure yet leave out about 2 million Fed employees.

Yes that is kind of my point. We need the details before we hail it as some awesome feet.
