I predict the oppressive, brutal regime in Iran will be overthrown, and a huge move toward DEMOCRACY and freedom of the people will transpire.

I furthermore predict it will have a domino effect, and a surprise takedown the rule by the buffoons in North Korea will happen internally, w/o any need U.S. boots on the ground.

fail X2.

I'm not going to say anything about Trump as that's been done to death.

In either 2018/19 (unless Congress does something big) the subprime auto/student loan bubble will burst and we'll slip into recession.
Dem wave not only in DC but in state capitals (in those states that have elections) as well. Many of these newcomers will be radicals as happened to the Repubs (just replace rasism with socialism/social democracy) when they swept into power.
There will be a major announcement on the topic of general AI. Perhaps a (computationally) human level AI but more likely something like Walson getting a major boost to it's ability to independently learn. Regardless it'll have major implications for the tech community.
NASA will announce yet another 'Earth Like' exoplanets but this time with aspheric data that will prove the existence of a stable atmosphere (probably not breathable) and liquid water.

No burst bubble and no recession. (0)
Maybe a small wave for dems in elections. (.5)
No AI announcement or exoplanet announcement (that I am aware of) (0)

So overall giving a point per correct prediction

David : .5 (blue wave-ish)
Ralph57 (poor fellow) : 1 (death of a president)
arcturus88: 2 (decrease in mass shootings increase in suicides)
reedak: 0 (too amorphous and ambiguous for any measure of accuracy)

so if this were a competition, and it is not, I would be the clear winner. and if there were a trophy, and there is not one, mine would be the biggest and shiniest.

Thank you for playing friends. Stand by for 2019 predictions thread!

YOU jumped the gun! Year NOT over yet. The whole point of you visiting this topic 20 days early, should have been to get last minute predictions in, not to gloat prematurely!

This still has another year on its shelf life but it's looking like I'm right.

Yep!

Indeed, out of China.

No atmospheric data but they found far more than just the 1 and this includes the Centauri System which is especially exciting as we can actually get there.

I'd say I did well.

Should do a 2019 thread now.

You did ok on Dems prediction , though many say it was less than a "wave".
Can you post the verifiable AI and planetary discoveries in 2018?

Yes, please post in 2019 predictions!

The 2020 election should be very interesting. The House is always a crap shoot but the Senate is where it could be very interesting. There are 34 seats up in the Senate (1 additional due to Arizona Special Election. Only 12 of those seats are currently held by Democrats and 22 are held by Republicans. Right now there are no obvious seats that will flip.

I definitely agree, the next election is going to be big, especially with the WH in play as well.
