Well I would in a way tend to agree with you. However, the group of people that I, and I suspect you, are not a member of tend to disagree whole heartedly. Do I think Harry Reid was intending to be racist? No. However, in the United States a white man is very handicapped in what he can say regarding race, and when he utters especially the word "negro" which I doubt I have to remind you, is a word of the not even recent past, and light skinned etc, right or wrong anybody in the U.S. knows those words are off limits to white people period. Privately any black person I know would tell me its offensive to hear of a white person talking to other white people like that. Its not about Harry Reid necessarily being a racist. Its about him making comments that are offensive and seemingly bigoted. Again, if a Republican lawmaker makes a comment like that (and some have) he's toast. Reid got a another chance because he has a "D" by his name. I would have to say blacks and many whites are a little sensitive about what offends them, but I don't make the rules. No matter what they tell you, especially blacks were not impressed by the Senator's use of words behind closed doors. Its just the double standard that irritates Republicans who right or wrong, don't see themselves as racists. Its a touchy subject to say the least.
