Should there be more or less gun control?

There should definitely be less. I believe the Obama administration is going to destroy a lot of the American culture by regulation guns as Obama proposes to do. I totally agree that criminals should be blacklisted from carrying guns, but as in all other cases, we have to learn how to not take opportunities away from the majority of people just because a small minority decides to behave badly.

Yay, we finally agree! :D

I have always found the topic of gun control interesting and I recently had this debate with one of my peers. I believe that gun control does not help rid of crime and that there should be less of it. I really believe in the saying "guns don't kill people, people kill people."

How does everyone else feel about it here?

That depends upon what you consider gun control. We should have rules for who can obtain guns certainly. But I am not in favour of banning guns at all. In fact the safest states in the country have been listed recently by Forbes I believe and the safest were those who allow gun ownership. Not sure now if it was states or cities.

I very much agree.

What's more, criminals aren't exactly well-known for keeping to the law, either, so if an armed criminal broke into your house, you'd be just about defenceless.

I do have some swords and sabers I could repel them with. I fear that would get a bit messy.

Has anyone else noticed (in America at least) all the stories about people taking katanas (referred to in the media as 'samurai swards') and chasing off/killing intruders? Guns seem to be falling out of style. :giggle:

I had one in my hand when I answered the door a few years ago. Salesman apologized and left quick. My front door has "No Soliciting and" Beware of dogs" signs. The front porch has a big "No Trespassing" sign. But he thought he wanted to give me a try. What does it take?

I've wielded a katana before, a well balanced, designed and elegant weapon. Even armed with a gun, I'd hesitate to challenge someone armed with such a weapon, especially if they are skilled with it.

A gunman could become disarmed very quickly.;)

True always; but also, the government would not be the only ones to have guns; criminals would STILL have them. First the guns. Then the books. Look, tv and the internet are forms of information just as are books....and yet yesterday Obama told us to shut off the tv's don't listen to the news, etc....I thought he was going to say don't read any books or newspapers as well. So

You're wasting you time with anti-Obama posts. I don't think anyone here still supports him.

Maybe that is good advice from him for a change. Although if he and his re-election team could stop news feeds to the media, that would probably solve more than half of the problem.

I don't own a gun, never have but....if I were thinking of a weapon to protect myself, it wouldn't be a sword. You need to get too close for that for my liking. I'd prefer one of those small crossbows or a gun. In my state if a person steps over the threshold of your door and has both feet inside your home you are in your legal rights to shoot to kill if you believe your life is in danger. I'm only five feet tall and small built.....I'm NOT getting close to anyone.

Agreed, a gun or a grenade. Cross bow would also be good, but gun is more practical.

Cross-bows come in automatic without being subjected to the automatic weapons ban (as it's not a gun). Just something to consider.

Good point, although I think we were talking more along the lines of our preferences for alternatives to swords. But yes, it would make good sense that cross bows would not be included.
