Georgia was 1 thing, it's in the Mideast (not all Mideast nations are Muslim majority), Russia was trying to prop up a couple of small quasi-independent Russian republics and the Georgian gov't didn't have many friends due to corruption and limited geo-political importance.
Now lets look at Ukraine. Ukraine is right on the EU border, Russia is trying to install a puppet gov't and outright annex 60% of the country and Ukraine is
extremely important due to it's location and oil/gas pipelines.
The world was willing to ignore Georgia as long as the Russians just used it as a punching bag. The world
won't let Russia rebuild it's empire at Europe's expense.
