Industrialization isn't the issue, it just makes farming better. The issue is factory farms (which don't grow foodstuffs in most cases) forcing the small farms out. This forces farmers to move, depopulating their communities and leading to social and governmental collapse. The free land is mostly local gov't acting on it's own to service, usually offering a small lot to build a house on, unlimited land (within reason) and low or no taxes for businesses or a combination of the 2 to grow the population or at least stop the trend of depopulation. You really should digging deeper, America isn't nearly as well off as it seems with many places without electricity or water.
I know these details are ignored by the media due to low ratings and Libertarians sch as yourself that have this rosy view of the American Dream and capitalist paradise (though you're not so deluded on that last point) but really now. Start digging if you dare.
Care to give some source(s)? Our food production has been fine- I really think you are exaggerating any disturbance that you might see...
