It's just the end of the Mayan calendar. A new one starts on the same day. I am sure that the Mayans didn't think that they'd have to go past 2012 thinking that they people would be smart enough to realize that it was just the end of the calendar, and not the world.. but I guess that that was a failed prediction of theirs.
I am pretty sure that on 12/22/12 those making their doomsday predictions will say how everyone misunderstood them and that they meant 2012 years from now, or they will go on to make yet another failed prediction.
The people behind Nostradamus' books release a new edition to their books whenever they make a failed prediction, to cover their behinds and change their predictions.. so why should these people be any different?
To be honest, I am more worried by what those who are tired of being wrong might do.. with all of their talk about the world ending, you'd think that they'd WANT it to end. I am worried that these people will snap, and do something stupid resulting in an astronomical amount of those being killed, and/or severely injured and traumatized, simply because they were tired of being wrong, and wanted to be right for once.
I'd be more worried about this happening, than I would be of the actual prediction itself coming true.
