Can we afford it?
if we can pull them into our orbit away from Iran what price is too high?
Iran would have serious problem supplying Hezbollah. Which would weaken their position internally in Lebanon (an obvious good) and strengthen the Cedar Revolution proponents. A stronger Lebanon w/weaker Jihadist muslims means greater peace for the region.
States will soon need to make their choice - Iran or Israel. It'll be a tough pill to swallow for Sunni neighbors. Some of whom have already aligned (though not publically) w/Israel.
Peace in the region or at least stability with Iran checked by a Sunni block with a Israeli core (how weird and unlikely is that) is better than ignoring an opportunity to push Iran back.
Certainly we'd need to have a reasonable chance of success but there's a decent chance we'd get it from Egypt (once the new military government is in place) and Saudi Arabia and Jordan (if we'd quit fucking with them - stupidly) and certainly Israel and Lebanon would do what they can.
And don't read that to advocate boots on the ground. Covert assistance with special-ops crews, intelligence, military materiel, food and medicine and if things start rolling in right direction; air support. Iran cannot get there by air without entering either Iraqi or Turkish airspace. Neither will allow that. Our planes in Iraq would prevent any Iranian incursions (though if they tried it would be a great way for the US to reduce Iranian air assets) so air support would be intended to elminate Assad's air assets - such as they are.
It could be a vital domino that restabilizes the region... or not.
