What do you guys think of the Obama Healthcare plan? Do you think it would be good or bad for the economy? I think it is too much like socialism, as if we are drifting away from our good old capitalist ideals.

I agree with you, the economics of the plan is not good. In reality, the premise isn't good either because health care is not a right, despite what some in government may want you to think.

If it was socialist, it wouldn't suck. ;)

It's a gift to the insurance companies (they just got 30,000,000 new costumers for free) made to look like reform. Classic case of bread and circus.

I think it can be argued it is socialist- at least more so than the former situation.

I agree with you on the other matter though, it is another case of corporatism.

If you'll excuse the pop culture reference, anything that's not a Frangi's wet dream is related to socialism at some level. :p

Ah. Well you're the 1st such person I've met. Only 1 ep?
Really? I know a lot of people who haven't even seen it at all. I was always more of a Star Wars guy (but again, I never really gave Star Trek a shot.) Oh, and we are wayyyy off topic  lol.

I've never seen Star Trek. I only know who Spock is because someone told me a few years ago.

Off-topic but having fun. ;)

I'm not much of an Obama person, being in the UK, I don't know his policies, but I think free health care would be awesome.

Obama's idea of universal healthcare is forcing everyone to buy a policy or pay a higher tax and sending anyone who refuses to jail.

Most Americans could not afford a major medical expense, even with health insurance. They will be bankrupt; and those unfortunate to need long-term medical treatment will end up on the street. The greatest nation in the world should be able to afford the very best healthcare for all of its citizens. Need must it be so, for the greatness of a nation is not measured by its wealth or power, but by the way it provides for the welfare of its people.

Ironically, history shows us that the market is a lot more efficient and cost-effective than the government at providing anything, including health care. More competition would certainly mean lower prices as well as more innovation in a country that already ranks at top (or very close to it) of medical innovation. Right now (without the currently "reform" bill,) the system still plays into corporate interests by favoring insurance companies by reducing competition. favoring certain consumers, and requiring certain policies.

What do you guys think of the Obama Healthcare plan?

Awful.

Do you think it would be good or bad for the economy? I think it is too much like socialism,

If you really think so, you have an odd perception of socialism.

To clarify, Government does not equal socialism. I am on the anti-state side of socialism. I am living proof.

our good old capitalist ideals.

LOL.

HAHA.

I thought it was spelled "Ferengi"? Maybe i'm just projecting, but still?

free markets are not socialism ;)

Not in themselves. But they can exist side by side.

Universal healthcare is brilliant. Obama's way of organising that, tip-toeing around corporations, however, is sickening.

A very good name for it "Obama Healthcare", not Healthcare for the People of the United States. Although Obama is doing quite a good marketing job in making people think that he is doing it for the people. Like he did with the bail out of the big banks at beginning of last year. Obama legislation is 2000 plus pages that have been completely undigested by those who had to vote for it. I wonder how many have been able to understand what it actually means in its totality?
