President Obama is pushing the health care legislation currently pending in Congress once again. He has also asked Republicans, who are asking to start over, to bring their own proposals at a February 25th conference which the President is hoping can be televised.

Bob Blendon, a health policy and political analyst at Harvard University, was quoted as saying "The president is trying to turn around the sour mood on this issue and mitigate the criticism that he's ramming this bill down people's throats."

Republicans are still reluctant with such a conference, with most of them wanting to start from a clean slate. Several proposals have arisen within the party as well, many which can be found here: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE61757T20100208

I don't think the democrats will go for anything "Republican" anymore than the Republicans went for the "Democrats" plan. The two just look at most things differently. That's why they are both there.

This won't amount to anything. Obama thinks being bipartisan means everyone agrees with him and lets him do what he wantsand anyone with a different opinion is being an obstructionist. Remeber Obamas first meeting with Republicans after being sworn in, he told them "I won", basically shut up and get with my program.

The Democrats think they are in trouble because they just didn't get their message out, the people were duped by Republicans, if only the Democrats can get their message out and educate the illiterate masses then their plan will pass. In Obama's mind, he is right, the people are wrong.

What a wonderful quote myp! :D It's like the person who said this got two birds with only one stone. I think a lot of Americans would agree on that quotation, because it is exactly what's going on. Obama is turning out to be more a populist than anything who seeks popularity and good will from the population, if doesn't get that, he can actually, as you saw for the policies on unemployment and businesses, switch to Republican views. He's obviously very insecure of himself.

Agreed. The quote is on the number. In addition, everyone was getting happy that he finally got the message, i.e. to let it be, if Congress decided it was not a go, then it was not a go. But now I get a total different picture of his intentions. He is basically doing exactly the same thing, but marketing it differently, i.e. whitewashing it, so that it has the appearance of being populist. I hate being played for a fool! Thing is, he always gets found out, like lack of delivering the goods that match his speeches, and the more he gets found out, the worse his popularity is going to get.
