Not doing something would be the same thing because neither is crystal clear at this point. To make it more clear though, studies can help, which is why I liked the part about the funding for gun violence studies. Also, I think people on both sides agree on the background check thing.

It seems extremely odd to me that so many are against 'trying' to make life safer.
Surely if there is the slightest chance that lives can be saved then thats a good thing isnt it? The answers usually given about infringing 'my' right etc etc is a rather inward looking one isnt it? Why are people so against the idea of having a safe place to live in?
Please dont say it is already safe thanks to having guns in most homes/cars/handbags and please dont quote ratio numbers because anywhere that has 506 firearm related deaths in one year in one city IS a violent place to be.

Though you are welcome to this opinion, it is exactly that. As he clearly stated these actions were intended to make us safer, it can be assumed this is the intent. While it is equally clear you see it as an attempt to destroy American Liberties, I would point out that your liberties are far from absolute...otherwise we would live as anarchists.
