Reuters Poll: Obama leads in veteran vote by up to 7 percent

This surprised me, then I thought of who he is running against. Obama looks to be the favorite for the veteran vote this November.

Nothing surprises me anymore. If true it proves the new US culture is being very successful in smothering out the old culture.

I really think the country I grew up and lived lived in is about gone. I am almost past grieving for it. I just accept that is gone and I will never fit in here again. But that is okay. As I have said before, America will get what it deserves. Hell it is getting it now.

No. But many of them used to prefer how we left the conflict. There was a time they would say they did not want to leave until the job was done. Now we tell the enemies the day we will be leaving. Then they can rest for us to leave. Then when we cut and run they do what they wanted to do before.

Look at Iraq. Sure he brought most of our guys out. Then changed what we call the ones left behind. Look how well that has worked out for Iraq. And for what people in that part of the world think of us.

But did I hear that BO signed us up to stay in Afghanistan until 2024?

Maybe they think the job is done? Or that there was no job to ever do in the first place.

I really don't understand what you want. Sometimes you say we should stop policing the world with troops everywhere, then other times you want to stay in Iraq for who knows how long. We do have a pull out plan- one in which the highest of military officials have had a say you know...

There are those who say the pullouts haven't even been fast enough...

I don't believe the poll. It is contrary to others I have read.

Afghanistan was a war of self defense. We should not have invaded Iraq before we won in Afghanistan, in my opinion. Obama followed much of the Bush strategy, but he overrode his generals at times, especially with the Afghan surge which was briefer and used fewer soldiers than the generals advised.

Family members have served in both places.

It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. If peace is an appeal to the veteran vote this election, as it most likely will be, then Romney doesn't have much of an advantage either.

Yes, it will be interesting. Our daughter's college room mate was yanked out of her college dorm room to drive trucks into Baghdad during the invasion. She voted for Kerry because she thought Bush's conduct of the war was too wimpy.

Romney's advantage is with the economy if he can convince voters he is more competant than Obama.

Shooting Osama in the face is not on Obama, it is on seal 6. But the onus that Bush decided wasn't important enough ("I don't care about Osama anymore"), means that someone needed to pull the trigger. The fact that the chicken hawks now say that Bush is to be given credit is absurd. They water-boarded, they obfuscated, they violated every Geneva convention known to mankind. And it didn't work. Eventually, information that filtered to the good guys got him. It wasn't Bush's good work. Bush condoned the worst kind of torture. Obama made a tough decision. If he failed, the chicken hawks would be all over him. Through bravery and sheer luck, Obama scored. But that just means to the chicken hawks that Obama had nothing to do with it. Like their draft exemption, there are no consequences from blowavating.

Leon Panetta hinted that Bush's methods helped our forces find Osama bin Ladin. As for torture, Clinton also approved of rendition which allowed us to send prisoners to countries where torture was legal.

Bush's "I don't care about Osama any more" was taken out of context. At least four government agencies were searching for bin ladin. Bush was saying that Osama had become a symbol of the franchise like Col Sanders, and he was no longer the main focus of the attempt to destroy Al Quaida.

Obama deserves credit for ordering Osama's murder, but Bush's minions helped with the ground work by doing things Obama comdemned when he was running for office. A number of secret operations were accomplished in the region. Had the seals failed, we would not have known about it for a long time. So what if Obama risked condemnation if the mission failed. That is part of his job. The Seals risked death.

By the way, I am not a chicken hawk. I served in the Air Force for four years, and several of our family members served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our niece and her husband were involved in the search for Osama.

Drudge had a link to a poll giving Romney a majority approval. I don't don't have time to check the methodology of the polls you listed. Unless someone does, I don't give them much weight one way or the other.

My comments were correct in 5-31-12, and yours in 5-18-12 were wrong. If a veteran supports Obama it should be for valid reasons, not based on comments like yours. I'm sure you were kidding for effect, but someone might get the wrong idea.

What does your implication that Obama might be a Kenyan socialist have to do with the thread? Do you think veterans support Obama because he is a Kenyan socialist? I'm sure you are above such attacks, so your comment puzzles me. I believe Obama is a US citizen and is a far left liberal.
