Lovely and hes another one whom don't like as well.
One thing about this forum - whenever we're complaining about politicians, it's usually Dems. Which is odd, because the Reps are just as big morons.

Thanx and interesting about this.
I know what Republic means, but I don't always know what you mean especially when you use words in jest in a one-liner with no context to figure it out. I'm not always sure whether they are meant in jest or not. In this specific context you said Republic without a capital "R", I still don't get the joke however, if a joke was intended.A supporter of a republic. A republic is a geopolitical region without a monarchy. I presume you knew that, i'm just being specific.

A republican as in someone supportive of a republican gov't, not a Republican as in a member of the Republican Party.
So how would it be different from the Republican Party? Refer definition in Wikipedia of a Republican Government:^^^

A republic is a form of government in which the citizens choose their leaders and the people (or at least a part of its people) have an impact on its government. The word "republic" is derived from the Latin phrase res publica, which can be translated as "a public affair".

OK. So what country would then be a good example of republicanism?Because the Republican Party (of today) is a religious fundamentalist party bent of global domination and medieval Christian vales not unlike the Taliban and have absolutely 0 interest in republicanism? :giggle:
OK. So what country would then be a good example of republicanism?
Obviously you do not agree/or are in doubt whether the US is a good example of republicanism, so which country in your opinion is?The US?

Thanks for the list. What I thought I was going to get would be countries that in David's estimation met the real criteria for a Republic, having been critical of the Republican Party. Quite a large number of the countries in the list of "Republics" do not meet the Wikipedia definition of what a Republic is:How many would you like?

I think it was you who brought it up and pointed out that there was a difference between the two.A republic is a community (not always a state) ruled by an elected non-monarch and sometimes administered by a legisatior, ussalyy elected. The 2 latter points not always being elected. Republics are also not always demacratic.
Also, what does not liking the Republican Party have to do with a republic?

Thanks for the explanation Dirk. It certainly does help and well said.Or maybe it was me with the "small r" stunt?
Basically, the Republican Party is a political party with a neo-conservative ideology. However, republicanism is the desire for society without a monarchy.
Does that help?
