Would you steal bread to feed for family?

It would seem the issue here is the term "Thieves", as in someone stealing something.
While it is clear Iolo sees a theft, reality points to capitalism, supply and demand, and basic economic principle.

In a perfect Socialism, the world Iolo sees would be wonderful. Unfortunately, this is not the way things seem to work.

I would enjoy the results of this fantasy.....I think. But, I understand it is not to be so in my future.

The only thing stopping anything so obvious is that vast amounts of stolen work are being pumped into muddling heads.

What's the problem? From each according to his/her ability, to each according to his/her need. By democratic decision. Two or three hours a day should be enough.

Yup...it should be enough.

But it is not.

We live in a world that does not bend to your desires, or mine.

We live in a world that currently requires capital, productivity, profit, and labor. To expect something else is foolish...even if a wonderful dream.

No - just the only possibility of survival, I'm afraid.

By you. How are the opticians in your neck of the woods? :)

You see an evil money grabbing capitalist behind every tree and under every rock when it's just an honest, hard working landscaper. :p So ya, you seem scared (paranoid might be a better word)

They are not behind trees - they are out in public, urinating on the fools who work while they steal. Come, come!

thanks for proving my point.

Well, manifestly I didn't - but that is the way pro-capitalists 'think': as programmed, and without relevance to anything said or seen. 'Thaaat is Freeeeedoom', they recite like American vacuum-cleaners, in unison: 'You will be Ex-teeeeehrming-ated!' His master's voice.

I'm a socialist.

Define that.

I believe that businesses (excluding mom and pop type operations) should be owned by the workers, that labor laws should be upheld and that workers should be payed ether a commission of 50%+ of the profits for retail jobs or a living wage for non-retail jobs. This is assuming a for-profit operation. In the case of a non-profit, I'd only require a min wage (at a higher rate then it's currently set at).

If you steal a chicken then you are a thief if you steal an entire country then you are a politician.

Because I advocate property rights, the right to keep the fruits of your labor and the non-aggression principles, I would not endorse the idea of stealing goods from others in order to feed your family. To avoid resorting to such matters, I would do other preventative measures, such as saving most of my income instead of spending, maintain a balanced budget and try to protect my wealth.

Stealing is never justified. Period!

The question isn't what you would do to prevent it. It starts after that- because of bad luck or whatever, you are left with nothing and either steal the bread to feed your family or they starve. A much more difficult issue.

Yes, yes I would.

From a moral standpoint, of course I would do everything else I could first to be able to afford it. I wouldn't dare own other possessions that could be sold, for example, and still be able to justify stealing. I wouldn't be sitting on my butt at home (if I even somehow had one) and not looking for a job.

If push came to shove and I had fallen so far that I still wasn't able to afford the food to feed my family and I couldn't get food from elsewhere (like a shelter or food bank), then yes, I would steal.
