Would you steal bread to feed for family?

Yes, yes I would.

From a moral standpoint, of course I would do everything else I could first to be able to afford it. I wouldn't dare own other possessions that could be sold, for example, and still be able to justify stealing. I wouldn't be sitting on my butt at home (if I even somehow had one) and not looking for a job.

If push came to shove and I had fallen so far that I still wasn't able to afford the food to feed my family and I couldn't get food from elsewhere (like a shelter or food bank), then yes, I would steal.

...and there.."it is"

Absolutely. If myself and my family were starving, I would steal food for us. Surviving trumps laws any day, I have to say. I'd try other ways first, but if I'm desperate to survive, there's no question.

I have never experienced true poverty or extreme hunger, but if I had to steal for food for my family I would do it. I don't think it's wrong for an impoverished person to steal bread for food. We are very sensitive to the word steal because it is against the law and because people who take from us are wrong. But impoverished people who resort to stealing are not doing it because they want to break the law, they do it because people don't give them anything to eat. I respect the poor in countries where their government doesn't give them food stamps or churches who hold soup kitchens. The poor still find a way live and make babies. Which means that humans are capable of surviving, may not be luxury or the healthiest, but we can survive. What can a poor person offer who is hungry other than his own life?

I would not consider stealing as a first or only alternative. I would look for other alternatives before considering the five finger discount. If no other alternative exists and my family was starving, yes I would steal to feed my family and myself.

It is a question that is commonly asked, even in a non-philosophical context. It is simple to understand, yet has deep moral and philosophical consequences. So, what is your answer to: "would you steal to feed your family?"

I am actually not sure on that one and I am not sure I would be until I was in that circumstance. I would certainly try everything I could before resorting to steal, but if there literally were no other options and it was for my family, I might just go ahead and steal that bread or food.

Would I steal to feed my family, the answer is with out a doubt yes. If life should for some reason become that bad I would do whatever is possible to make sure my family were fed. However I know there are a lot of steps that can be taken before such a matter should ever occur. :)
