According to Mark Sofer that these are very tough negotiations, they affect industry, they affect agriculture, they affect technologies, they affect transfers of know-how. It's not easy!!!
Source: reuters.comMark Sofer, Israel's Ambassador to India said that India and Israel would soon be signing a free trade agreement. He disclosed this at Jaipur in India's northwestern state of Rajasthan on Tuesday (May 25).
The envoy also mentioned that preliminary negotiations would commence on Wednesday. A team of experts from Tel Aviv is reaching New Delhi, he said.
"The Indian government has decided to go ahead with the free trade agreement, so we are bringing over our experts, actually they arrive today and the talks will start, I think, tomorrow. So we are very excited about that," said Mark Sofer, Ambassador of Israel to India.
Further he noted that this was going to be a landmark agreement between the two countries, giving a major boost to their economies.
He also said that post signing of the free trade agreement, the civilian trade between the two countries would reach to around 12 billion dollars, triple the present figure of 4 billion dollars.
Israel is also extending help to India for better utilization of water and two Israeli companies are going to operate in northwestern Rajasthan state.
The Israel would set up its research and development centres in Rajasthan to use saline water for agriculture.
