Wow, my son's company's (Amazon) stock is up 55% this year!!! And he gets 1/2 his pay in company stock, so he's making a fortune!
The stock market is a show of how much success the capitalists are have at their exploitation. You can have a strong stark market but stagnating/falling wages, low employment and little consumer spending. It's not sustainable but the crash doesn't happen as soon as the economy slows down. People were making a killing in '29 and '09 all the way up until they weren't but the actual economy took a nose dive the previous year in both cases.

It came very close three times: in 1958, 1995, and 2006, when it had 11 "up" months. The worst year was 1974, when it was positive in only one month.
There was no shortage of news this year — from the threat of nuclear war to unending warnings that the stocks are too expensive — to deter the bull market.

Definitely didn't learn it in school. lol The only bits of Brit history we learn is how the French saved a bunch of rioting slavers and bankers (I mean patriots and with no French help except a few ships at Yorktown) and how we saved them from the Nazis (after they already won the Battle of Britain).
This came up on YouTube a few years back though.
