Okay..anloagy time:
Joe likes pancakes..cool
Joe decides to make poison pancakes...and serve them to the public.
Not cool.
Joe decides guns are cool.
Joe decides guns that are made to kill lots of people and have no other purpose are good.
Not cool.
You keep using words like assult rifle, and sniper rifle. An assult rifle, if you are talking about an m 16 is extremely difficult to obtain, you file paper work with the fed and so on. An ar 15 is just a jazzed up simiauto, the only thing that makes it different us the way it looks. I own a rifle, with a red field scope, it is a sniper rifle, that's all they are. Bolt action 30.06
An assault weapon in legal terms boils down to anything that looks scary and is automatic. An automatic, AK-47 look alike paintball gun illegal. A semi-auto AK-47 modified to hold a non-banana clip magazine on the other hand is as legal as that hunting rifle of yours. There is no logic to the law (at least in America), it's based on nothing but fear.
Obama said something during his second debate that offended me. He said that guns should be kept out of the hands of the mentally ill. That comment suggested that every mentally ill person is capable of violence and that isn't true.
I think it's a mistake to assume that Obama thinks that all mentally ill people are violent, I read this more as being concerned about people being able to exercise proper judgement. I don't know what mental illness you have but if it effects your ability to quickly assess threat and act responsibly then I agree that you shouldn't be carrying a weapon. Cops practice with their firearms quite a bit and even they make mistakes. You can't recall a bullet once it's been fired.
Maybe we should insist that every able-bodied adult be weapons trained and carry concealed. We could eliminate the word massacre except for when used in the phrase Obama's Benghazi Massacre.I don't see it as prejudice and was going to suggest that it could be that mentally challenged people are more likely to use a weapon. That though falls flat on its face because gun crimes are committed by anyone it seems.
The solution is of course to dramatically curb the availability of guns but US isnt likely to do that is it?
Two reasons, 1) To curb political appetites, 2) for other self defense means. Why do civilians NEED guns?
For me it was one time. The individual told me he was going to get his gun out of his car and shoot me. I got mine first. I held it at my side, waiting until I saw the weapon in his hand. It was my intention to put one round through his head. That is a good question, one that comes up for me is how many times is a gun used to prevent a possible injury? I know it has been the case in my non processional life that I have used a fire arm defensively three times, I have never fired a gun at a person before.
Why?I agree, I own a few myself. I just see making it easier for the nutjobs to go postal, as a step in the wrong direction.
Firearms are not the actual problem, as they exist, and are reality. But, when Joe Shmoe from Idaho can get an AR-15 with ID at an unregulated farm event....perhaps we should evaluate what we are allowing.
maybe his point was about pancakes...So are you saying that somebody who likes guns inevitably becomes a killer?
All guns ever made and ever will be made are designed to kill things.
Why is an assault weapon more deadly, fully automatic weapons are not legal to own, the ar 15 is just like any other SIMI auto 223 in the world, does the rail sights and the plastic stock make it more deadly?
Why through his head rather than his 'gun' hand /wrist?
That only happens in the movies.
His head was clearly visible. I knew where it was. It was big enough for me to correctly aim at and hit with one round. It would have ended the argument. It would have put him in a position from which he could not harm me.
Why through his head rather than his 'gun' hand /wrist?
Wouldnt hitting him in his legs or body be better? You might not kill him then.
